FACULTY
Deron is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacology at NUS. He is a preclinical scientist focusing on the metabolism and signal transduction of bioactive lipids, with an emphasis on sphingosine 1-phosphate. He has made progress in understanding the roles of lipid signaling in dementia, pain transmission, and cancer, and his group is developing small-molecule and antibody-based drugs for multiple lipid-activated G protein-coupled receptors. He began studying the biology of hearing loss in 2007 while working with knockout mice. He has since been working to translate these initial observations into pharmacological treatments that prevent cochlear degeneration.
